Chhattisgarh Government is taking all initiatives to boost sports in the region. Various schemes have been launched in this regard. Various sports venues and training centers have been developed for our youth to try their hands at sports. The state government is also felicitating sports talents to keep their morale high. Chhattisgarh Olympic Association, Chhattisgarh Hockey Association, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Basket Ball Association, Karate Association, Cycling Association are some of the sporting bodies that play a vital role in upbringing sports talent of the state.
The Chhattisgarh Football Federation is the state association affiliated to the All India Football Federation. Its office is in Bhilai. The important football stadiums in Chhattisgarh include the Pant Stadium in Bhilai and the NTPC Football Stadium in Korba. They also serve as the venues for the All India Football Federation Tournaments.
Sports stadiums form an important constituent of the sports of Chhattisgarh. The Ravishankar Shukla Stadium in Durg is among the most important sports stadiums in India. The Priyadarshini Indira Stadium in Korba is a spacious stadium, having a seating capacity of 45,000. Besides being a sports stadium, it also serves as a venue for all important occasions like Independence Day and Republic Day. Moreover, the Shahid Veernarayan International Cricket Stadium in Raipur has brought laurels to the state by hosting a couple of national and international level matches.

The city boasts of the Mahant Sarveshwar Das Memorial all India hockey tournaments, which was inaugurated in 1941. Both cricket and hockey matches are held here. The Ranji Trophy tournaments too are held here.
Bhilai is another city which makes a rich contribution to the sports of Chhattisgarh. The SAIL Athletics Academy facilitates in moulding and honing champions of tomorrow. About 75 sports tournaments have been organized in this city since the formation of Chhattisgarh.
There is a Sports Authority of India (SAI) training centre in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh which falls under the Ministry of Human Resources and Sports. Chess, body building, basketball, etc. are the sports activities included in the curriculum here.
Jayanti Stadium is located in Bhilai district and is a multi-purpose stadium. The stadium has all of the facilities of a domestic cricket stadium. The venue can also be used for other sports as well. Chhattisgarh is home to many fine sporting personalities of India. Saba Anjum Karim who hails from Kelabadi, Durg was part of hockey team at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. She was also selected for the Arjuna Award. She was also honored with Chhattisgarh’s top Gundadhur sports award.
Although born in Ranchi, Rajesh Chauhan is a cricketer who is a pride of the state. He was a part of the very famous Indian spin trio, which consisted of Kumble-Raju-Chauhan. He is a cricketer who has played around a massive 21 tests and 35 one-day internationals from 1993 to 1998. His father, Govind Raja Chauhan was also a cricketer who made it big in the sports field.
Abhishek Khare from the Chhattisgarh Cricket Association is one of the other big names in the field of cricket in Chhattisgarh. Radha Yadav in swimming, Anil Kumar Kaushik in Handball, T Ningraj Reddy in Softball, Megha Sahu for powerlifting are some of the well known people. Ajay Pratap Singh, Anjana Deji Ekka, Sangeeta Kaur, and Sharanjeet Kaur for basketball and Renuka Rajpoot for hockey are other names that are prominent in the sports arena.
