Sumedha Karmahe – Singing The Song of Success
The very notion that the success is hard earned, is just one’s perception because when a person is well engineered within having the body, mind & soul in unison, then passing through any situation that the life poses, happens with utmost ease. Such a well engineered person is Sumedha Karmahe, who needs no introduction as her accomplishments soulfully rest on the lips of millions & millions of people in India & across the world like a ‘Nazm’.
Sumedha- the Barbie Doll of Chhattisgarh was born in Rajnandgaon. Her father, now retired, has been a sports teacher in a local school in her home town. She is enthralling us all with her vocal melody but the Barbie Doll could not utter a single word until she turned two & a half years. Her mother perturbed over the grave situation consulted a doctor too. Soon there was a turnaround as she began to magically memorize the lyrics of the songs & eventually sing when she was not even able to speak properly.
With no musical legacy at all Sumedha started to learn singing when she was in the 8th standard. She later on began to perform with a local orchestra- Rajbharti. While growing up, her stage presence was also in the local and state level competitions where on every occasion she wowed the judges and audience though she had not considered singing as a prime career option. When she garnered praise from the legendary music director Shri OP Nayyar in a singing competition in 2004 she got inclined towards becoming a singing sensation.
After completing her School Education from Weidner Memorial Senior Secondary School, Rajnandgaon she moved to Chandigarh for her graduation from Post Graduate Government College (PGGC), Sector-46, Chandigarh. As Sumedha passionately followed singing Reality Showssince her early #childhood she got acquainted with an opportunity to perform in the SaReGaMaPa LUDHIANA audition which she inevitably prevailed in. The final audition was due in Mumbai and the date clashed with her exam schedule but the family support gave her confidence to drop the exam and go for the audition that led her to the stage of SaReGaMaPa 2007 where she became a household name. She was encouraged to a great extent by Vishal Dadlani during the show.
After the conclusion of the TV show she as per the contract toured across the world for a slew of concerts for two years. She also rocked the dais of IDEARockConcert series of 14 concerts in 14 cities of the country along with Shaan in 2008. Afterwards she began to learn more from different teachers and hone her singing talent that transformed her into a rising star in the Music Industry. Her popularity turned too soaring that a number of TV shows invited her for their TRP hike. She was also offered to act in numerous TV serials and a few movies but she negated all that, keeping her prime focus on singing.
Her very first playback singing was for the song Chakhri from the Santosh Santosh Sivan’s TAHAAN. Till date she has sung 3 solo songs. Her duet with Atif Aslam, Tuta Jo Kabhi Tara form the movie A Flying Jatt went on to become a hit. She has also given her voice to the duet with Arijit Singh for the song Tum Tum Tum Ho from the movie FUDDU. Her latest song is Nazm Nazm from Bareily Ki Barfi which has been a huge hit that she herself regards as the best among her favorites citing its ability to seep through the soul. As of now she has done playbacks in 6 different languages.
She states that she doesn’t want to be restricted to a single genre as she wants to be very versatile and has also entered the Music Video genre where the videos are directed by her sister who is a professional Production Designer. For her the greatest motivation is audience response. She also states that nothing is better than passion and hobby turning out to be one’s profession as it helps do what is exactly yearned for.
Sumedha has always been supported by her family throughout her life. Her father has a very distinctive approach than most of the small city parents which is reflected through her sisters’ accomplishments too, as they are also in the art field working out of the town. Sumedha with modesty quips that God has been kind to her as she hasn’t seen any significant struggle till now. This signifies that she is well established within, that she passes through any challenge seamlessly.
